SCIENCE

BOTANY
Scope and Importance

Botany is the scientific study of plant life. As a branch of biology, it is also called plant science(s), phytology, or plant biology. Botany is the science of plant life forms and living processes.

As with other life forms in biology, plant life can be studied from different perspectives, from the molecular, genetic and biochemical level through organelles, cells, tissues, organs, individuals, plant populations, and communities of plants. At each of these levels a botanist might be concerned with the classification (taxonomy), structure (anatomy and morphology), or function (physiology) and Breeding of plant life.

Historically, botany covers all organisms that were not considered to be animals. Some of these "plant-like" organisms include fungi (studied in mycology), bacteria and viruses (studied in microbiology), and algae (studied in phycology).

Most algae, fungi, and microbes are no longer considered to be in the plant kingdom. However, attention is still given to them by botanists, and bacteria, fungi, and algae are usually covered in introductory botany courses.

The study of plants has importance for a number of reasons. Plants are a fundamental part of life on Earth. They generate the oxygen, food, fibres, fuel and medicine that allow higher life forms to exist.

Plants also absorb carbon dioxide through photosynthesis, a greenhouse gas that in large amounts can effect global climate. It is believed that the evolution of plants has changed the global atmosphere of the earth early in the earth's history and paleobotanists study ancient plants in the fossil record.

A good understanding of plants is crucial to the future of human societies as it allows us to:

The Department is having well qualified staff and our laboratories are well equipped and modernized to provide an excellent environment for teaching and research. A botanist can work as –

Beside these sector botanist can also work in bio-chemical Industry, Food Companies Forest Services, Biotechnology research, Oil Industry, Land Management Agencies, Seed And Nursery Companies, Plant Health Inspection Services, National Parks, plant Resources Laboratory and Educational Institutions.

CHEMISTRY

Scope and Importance

Chemistry is a scientific discipline that involves the study of matter, its compositions, properties and reactivity with other elements. Matter is something that has mass and acquires space. Everything around us that is physically present is made up of matter. For instance, books, furniture, and even our bodies.

In the scope of its subject, Chemistry lies somewhere at the intermediate position between various other branches of science. This explains its importance to the rest of branches of science. Chemistry provides a foundation for understanding both the basis and applied scientific disciplines at a fundamental level.

The marvels of chemistry are endless. The chemist is the magician who can turn waste products into things both beautiful and useful. Thus from coal one gets coal-gas and its bye-product, coal-dyes, saccharine and many more substances. Waste products like saw-dust can be made to yield oil and acids.

We are living in an age of synthetic products. The increased demand for various natural products and the fact that they may not be easily available everywhere has led to a new development in the world of chemistry. Today natural products are often created artificially by chemical processes Natural indigo has been completely superseded by equivalent synthetic dyes. Real silk manufactured from the cocoon is a costly product and is not readily obtained in all climatic conditions. This has given rise to a large industry of artificial silk called rayon.

Another branch full of endless possibilities is that of plastics. There is nothing that cannot be done with plastics—from clothing to buildings. These examples will give an idea of the role that chemistry will play in the new age that is coming.

In the science of medicine, the use of chemistry is fundamental. The development of organic chemistry has revolutionized the basis of modern medicine. The discovery, of wonder-drugs like penicillin and streptomycin, and the application of the chemistry of dyes to therapeutics have brought about incalculable benefits to humanity.

The use of chemistry for the agriculturist is also very great, Chemical fertilizers are effectively re-enforcing primitive forms of manure greatly to the enrichment of the soil. Indeed, soil chemistry is a fruitful subject of study and research, particularly in an agricultural country like India.

The contribution of chemical science to military science, has helped the large- scale production of glycerine and nitric acid and thus stimulated the manufacture of high-grade explosives in ever-increasing quantities.

Archaeological chemist has employed a variety of chemical and physical approaches to study artefacts and historical objects. A quality control chemist focuses on testing a substance for compliance to standards and requirements. A forensic chemist analyzes non-biological trace evidences found at crime scenes to identify unknown materials and match samples to known substances.

The Department is having well qualified staff and our laboratories are well equipped and modernized to provide an excellent environment for teaching and research. Department offers U.G. and P.G. courses in a friendly and supportive academic community enabling our students to achieve their full potential and develop into employable graduates and post graduates.

Graduates from this course will be better prepared to understand the new environment-friendly systems and can understand the processes that the chemical industry is adopting. After doing B.Sc. Chemistry, one can go for M.Sc. in Chemistry or take up various jobs and also take up internships to prepare for industry level entries.

Chemistry graduates and post graduates can find ample career opportunities both in public as well as private sector enterprises.

Some of the jobs opportunities in the field of chemistry are as follow:

Beside these sector a chemist can also work in various industries like polymer , dyes , oil , plastic , rubber, fabric, cement, ceramic, cosmetic, paint, food, petrochemical and mineral etc.

MATHEMATICS
Scope and Importance

Mathematics is an important subject and knowledge of it enhance a person reasoning, problem-solving skills and in general the ability to think. Statistics and probability which are branches of mathematics are used to everyday business and economics. Mathematics also from an important part of Accounting and many accountancy companies prefer graduates with joint degree with mathematics rather than just an accountancy qualification. Financial Mathematics and Business Mathematics form two important branches of mathematics in today’s world and these are direct application of mathematics to business and economics. Example of applied mathematics such as probability theory and management science, queuing theory, time-series analysis, linear programming all are vital mathematics for business.

The Department is having well qualified staff according to the university norms. Mathematician can make career in various sector such as-

PHYSICS
Scope and Importance

Physics is the study of energy, matter, and their interactions. It’s a very broad field because it is concerned with matter and energy at all levels—from the most fundamental particles of matter to the entire universe.

Important concepts in physics include motion, forces, magnetism, gravity and forms of energy such as light, sound, and electrical energy.

Physics is in some senses the oldest and most basic pure science; its discoveries find applications throughout the natural sciences, since matter and energy are the basic constituents of the natural world. The other sciences are generally more limited in their scope and may be considered branches that have split off from physics to become sciences in their own right. Physics today may be divided into classical physics and modern physics.

Physics department is recognized by its best faculty. The faculty is also very active in research and extension programmes.

The following list shows some of the common job types and Employment areas for Physics graduates:
